Welcome to the Troop 7 Scouting Family  

We are proud of our Troop 7 Scouting Family and so glad you are joining us for our own special kind of fun.  It can be a bit daunting when first joining a Boy Scout troop.  Here are a few things that should make your family's start a bit easier.

New Scout, the Basics:

First things first; each boy considering joining Scouting has a Scoutmaster Conference to discuss Scouting and answer questions.    Drop a line to Scoutmaster.  BTom Lorkowski, Troop 7 Scoutmaster will contact you to arrange a family meeting.

Complete a Boy Scout Youth Application for each Scout.  The multipart form is available at the Scout Hut.  The form is available online at BSA Youth Form.  However, Troop 7 does require the multipart  form.

Complete an Annual Health Form parts A & B for each Scout.  The form is available online at  BSA Health Form.    Remember to include a copy of your Health Insurance Card

Purchase a Boy Scout Handbook  (cover recommended) .  See it online here:   www.bsahandbook.org  The Scout takes the Handbook to all activities for advancement requirement review and signoff.   The Scout Shop has all Scout supplies including the Handbook and uniforms.

While you are at the Scout Shop, purchase a uniform for your Scout.  You can check pricing online at ScoutStuff.org.  Troop 7 follows a 'belt up' uniform policy.  The Scout Shop can assist you with the belt, shirt and patch purchase for Troop 7, Longhorn Council.   

Turn in the completed forms and payment at a Troop 7 meeting.  Please check with the New Member Coordinators for current fees.

nnual Youth Registration fee:  $36 per Scout (2015) Includes Boys Life magazine subscription
Troop 7 Annual Program Fee: $25 per Scout
.  Maximum $50 per family.

New Scout, Next Steps:

Participate & enjoy  - attend weekly meetings meeting details, and monthly activities.

Campout Meal Fee, $15 weekend activity, $20 for 3-night activity

Summer Camp is highly recommended for new Scouts.  It gives the Scout a great start in Scouting with his fellow Troop 7 Scouts and is a great way to complete requirements toward rank advancement.  Summer Camp costs vary from year to year and will be announced at meetings and through email communications.  Each Scout attending Summer Camp requires a physical and completed Part C BSA Health Form

Participate in Fundraising,  See the fundraising page for details.
Troop Fundraisers provide funds for the troop equipment and activities and keeps costs down for all families.  All families participate.

Remember to keep Scouting FUN!  Keep a positive outlook, participate and enjoy the experience with your Scout

New Adult, the Basics:

Scouting is an experience best shared by the family.  Experience has proven that Scouts with participating family benefit the most by continuing and succeeding in the Scouting program.  Besides, it's FUN for the whole family!

To help those just starting with the troop, an adult may participate in one campout without being BSA registered. 

Complete a Boy Scout Adult Application for each Adult.  The multipart form is available at the Scout Hut.  The form is available online at BSA Adult Form.  However, Troop 7 does require the multipart  form.

Complete an Annual Health Form parts A & B for each Adult.  The form is available online at  BSA Health Form.    Remember to include a copy of your Health Insurance Card

Complete Youth Protection Training (YPT), available online at MyScouting.org.  Remember to send a copy of the completion form to the Training Coordinator.  This training is required for all adults.

Attend a Safe Environment Program session; there are multiple classes available in the area.   Contact Donna Buccino of St. Francis of Assisi at 817-481-2685 ext 237 or email dbuccino@sfatx.org.   The Catholic Diocese will notify you of options before the expiration date.  Remember to send a copy of the completion form to the  Training Coordinator.  This training is required for all adults. 

Complete a Personal Data Sheet.   The form provides contact information as well a vehicle information for driving Scouts for activities.

New Adult, Next Steps:

Participate, attend weekly meetings and monthly activities,  observe, learn, train and have fun with your Scout.  In due time, you will see how you can contribute too.

Get a uniform Start with a shirt and add pants and other gear over time.  You can check pricing online at ScoutStuff.org  The Scout Shop can assist you with the uniform for Troop 7, Longhorn Council.   

Learn about Troop 7 and Boy Scouts of America.  Explore the Troop 7 website, read the Scouting magazine.  Learn about the Scouting program so your Family can enjoy to the fullest.

Train and serve in a leadership position

Merit Badge Counselor - share your knowledge and guide the Scouts in learning about  skills and interests
Committee Member - boys lead their own program, the committee ensures the resources are available
Assistant Scoutmaster - guide and encourage the Scouts in their journey, assist with advancement requirements and review their progress
